What is No-Shave November?

It’s that time of year when the air gets cold and the beards unfold.

On Nov. 1, men start the tradition of No-Shave November. However, most people don’t know what this silly tradition truly means.

This month-long event was created in 2009 by the Hill family to spread cancer awareness. As stated on their website, this project held special meaning to the eight Hill children after their father, Matthew Hill, passed away from colon cancer in Nov. 2007. This was the birth of their nonprofit, Matthew Hill Foundation, Inc (MHI).

Monica Hill, President and CEO of Matthew Hill Foundation, Inc., stated that losing her father-in-law, pushed her to fight for a cancer-free world.

“Under her leadership, MHF Inc has raised over $12 million...” said no-shave.org. “She believes a world without cancer is within our grasp and is constantly looking for ways to share MHF’s mission.”

MHF raises money to support cancer prevention, research and education. On their website, linked below, people can donate to their cause, which displays the amount of money they have collected so far this year. At the moment, they have raised over $48,000.

As MHF said, “Put down your razor and join the fun!”
