Spring Break in Charleston

Spring Break in Charleston

This year for spring break I decided to head back to my hometown to be a tourist for a week.

I’m originally from North Charleston, SC which is about half an hour from the historical Downtown Charleston. Even with the short commute between the two I can say that I haven’t seen nearly everything that the city has to offer, making this a great trip opportunity.

With my experience, I’ll be compiling a list of things that you can do on your next trip to Charleston.

  1. Visit Byrd’s Famous Cookies in Downtown Charleston: Byrd’s is a Charleston delicacy, if you know you know.

  2. Stop by Kermit’s Key Lime Pie Shop in Downtown Charleston: located directly next door to Byrd’s Famous Cookies is this gem. The entire shop is dedicated to the key lime pie flavor and packed to the brim with various options. They have a variety of cookies, pies, cakes and other desserts available.

  3. Rainbow Row: Rainbow Row is a row of 13 pastel-colored houses on East Bay Street right next to the historical Battery. All of the houses were originally built in the late 1700s and have since been restored.

  4. Downtown marketplace: the marketplace downtown is available to the public and provides an opportunity for vendors to gain publicity. There are various things available for purchase such as paintings, handmade jewelry, traditional African body care and much more

  5. King Street nightlife: many people say that the best part of Downtown Charleston is the thriving nightlife. For those over 21, King Street is home to multiple bars that are so diverse that there’s something for everyone. My personal favorites are Uptown Social, Ink and Prohibition. Charleston is also one of the only cities that provides a similar experience for those who are 18+. Music Farm is a musical venue that holds concerts and themed events for anyone over 18 (unless rules for the event disclose otherwise. Music Farm is another personal favorite.

  6. Page’s Okra Grill: originally starting as a food truck, Page’s has reached ultimate success in the eyes of Charlestonians. I visited their Summerville location and was immediately blown away by all aspects of the restaurant. I would recommend this place to anyone passing through.

Next time you’re in the Charleston area I would definitely recommend passing through these places!
