Aiken Community Theater set to perform "Some Place Called Mayor's Income Tennessee"

“Some Place Called Mayor’s Income Tennessee” is a play hosted at the Aiken Community Theater on Newberry Street on April 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and April 3 at 2:00 p.m. The play is a full-length play made up of 8 shorter, episode-like plays all set in a fictional town of Mayor’s Income Tennessee.

“Some Place Called Mayor’s Income Tennessee” is written by local playwright Jonathan Cook of Augusta, Georgia. Cook is a four-time winner of the Porter Fleming Literary Award and has written 19 plays in total.

“Lobster Man” is about a couple in a post-apocalyptic world who meet a stranger at the front door. It turns out the stranger is a fictional character that one of them made up earlier in the day.

“Reflections” is a story about a couple whose daughter goes missing. They speak with a grief counselor who is left confused about fact and fiction after hearing their story.

“Celebration of the Fox Moon” is a story about a dinner party interrupted by two criminals on the run from the cops.

“My Muse” is a story about an author suffering from writer’s block. Trying to break free of this malady, he kidnaps a woman he believes is his muse.

“Wages of Sins” is about a man who has lived a life of sin. He decides one day to go to a pawnshop and try to sell off his sins.

“Transferring Kyle” is about a man whose life is on the wrong track and management decides he must be replaced.

“A Play by Theodore Janus” is a story about a playwright who tries to convince an actress in one of his plays to change the ending of the play allowing her character to live rather than die.

“Marigold” is a story about a man at a park who meets two strangers who mistake him for someone else. They make a deal with him and exchange some money but the man is left confused by the whole encounter.
