College Kids Guide to a Healthy Life: Food

Pacers, it’s time to stop eating Ramen.

How many of you have stomach issues? Like either you feel nauseous all the time or after every time you eat you feel gross? Me too. However, there are certain foods that we can add to our diet to help us stop feeling like this.

According to Hopkins Medicine, there are five foods that improve our gut one meal at a time; however, only two will be covered in this article.

  1. Whole Grains

“Compared to refined carbohydrates, like white bread and pasta, whole grains provide lots of fiber, as well as added nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids,” said on the Hopkins Medicine website.

Now according to Harvard Health, fiber is needed to regulate the body's use of sugars, helping to keep hunger and blood sugar in check. By replacing carbohydrates with whole grains in our diet, it will help rebalance the body and stomach.

  1. Leafy Greens

“Research shows that leafy greens also contain a specific type of sugar that helps fuel growth of healthy gut bacteria,” said on the Hopkins Medicine website.

Most people think that having bacteria in our bodies is a bad thing, but there are such things as good bacteria. It can help with digestion, along with helping the body produce needed vitamins and energy.

These two foods can simply be added to your diet. When you are buying that box of pasta or rice, just get the whole-grain one. Listen, with the right amount of sauce or toppings, you can’t even tell the difference.

As someone who experiences a lot of stomach issues, I’ll definitely add these foods to my diet.
