Restaurant Review: Tako Sushi

Restaurant Review: Tako Sushi

The Alley located in downtown Aiken is full of delicious cuisine, shops and bars. This can make choosing a restaurant for the night daunting. Tako sushi is a restaurant that focuses on the fusion between “Eastern” and “Western” cuisine. This is a great place to dine when nobody can decide what they want to eat because of the choice between Asian and Mexican cuisine. The restaurant has a nice outdoor sitting area that allows you to people watch, enjoy the nice weather, or any of the local bands that frequently play downtown. There is also a good selection of seating inside for sit-down tables or a spot at the bar.

The appetizers are great with lots of options to choose from. The tempura asparagus is one of my personal favorites because it is crunchy, flavorful and topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. The shrimp shumai is also a good choice because they are small, easy to share and delicious. Focusing more on the western side, the queso and stuffed jalapenos are also great and very sharable. The stuffed jalapenos are crunchy, delicious, spicy and served with a little bit of queso to dip them in.

The sushi menu is long with many different rolls to choose from. Some of the best rolls that Tako Sushi has to offer are the Jesse Roll, Hot Mama Roll, Triple Tango Roll and the Tomahawk. These are my personal favorites, but the large variety of sushi available ensures that there is a roll that almost every sushi lover will enjoy.

Entrée-wise, the Tako Burger is a delicious and filling choice. This burger has green chiles, chipotle lime ketchup, Dijon mustard, green chile cilantro mayo, green tomato jalapeno relish, lettuce, tomato and cheese and comes with a side of French fries. You can also get this burger turned into a burrito with red & green chile sauce, cheese, ranch, beans and fries. I personally love this burger because of how versatile and unique it is. Another amazing entrée is the Firecracker Shrimp! The shrimp are tempura fried and tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce.

I am not 21 so I cannot give my experience with their alcohol, but after peaking at the menu there seems to be a large variety of cocktails, beer, wine and sake to choose from! Overall, Tako Sushi is a great addition to the cuisine available in downtown Aiken! I recommend checking it out if you have not already done so!
