The Cumbee Center's Second Annual Chili Cookoff

The Cumbee Center's Second Annual Chili Cookoff

On Oct. 14, 2022, the Cumbee Center had its second annual Chili Cookoff.

This event was to bring the community together to raise awareness for domestic violence. A total of eight teams competed, each being an organization in Aiken that offers support and resources for victims and/or their families.

The event was free to attend and allowed the attendees to be the judges. The winner of the best overall chili went to the Police Department of Barnwell and the runner-up went to the Aiken Center.

“I thought it was a lot of fun and a great way to taste some chili,” said Jacob Corey, an attendee and student at USCA. “My favorite was definitely the police departments! It was very flavorful and delicious.”

Throughout the event, some of the Cumbee Center’s staff and volunteers walked around with signs with empowering messages, Stop Domestic Violence, Love Shouldn’t Hurt and We Stand With You and took pictures of everyone who came by to support.

The Cumbee Center then went to social media to thank all the organizations and members of the Aiken community for coming out to the event.

The next event they will be hosting is a 5k on November 5, 2022. For more information, check out their website.
