Sports in Review: Men's and Women's Basketball Dec. 16 2021 - Jan. 22 2022

Men’s: Georgia Southwestern, Dec. 16, 2021

The first half began a defensive game which picked up during the second half. 18 and a half minutes into the first half, David Strother made a pass to Jalen McCoy who immediately fed the ball to Preston Parks who was driving under the basket. The ball was sent too fast and Parks could not acrobat for the ball. The Pacers kept a lead the whole game, at one point they were up by 20 during the second half. Pacers won the game 68-53.

Women’s: Georgia Southwestern, Dec. 16, 2021

Pacers lost 73-52. Alicia Harris had a big game with four rebounds, one steal, and 16 points. Pacers were doing well but couldn’t keep up with 44% from in the paint, 32% from outside, and a 62% free throw percentage. 35 rebounds and five steals were the Pacers leading stats for the game.

Men’s: Lander, Jan. 5, 2022

To start the new year, the Pacer basketball team cut up against Lander in the second half of the game after being held by a leash for most of the game. Lander refused to give up the lead until Preston Parks hit a falling three to tie the game, bringing the crowd and teams moral up for a four point play. Pacers kept a steady lead the rest of the game. Pacers beating Lander 74-73. Preston Parks was the game leader with 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Women’s: Lander, Jan. 5, 2022

Pacers had better percentages for points made than Lander, however, we lacked the amount of shots we were hoping for. The women are sure to make a comeback and improve their performance for games to come. The game came out 82-63.

Men’s: Clayton State Jan. 19 and Young Harris Jan. 22, 2022

Against Clayton State, the men’s team scored 83-63, with sophomore Tehree Horn leading the Pacers with a team-high of 30 points along with 10 rebounds. Graduate student David Strother also enjoyed a great game, contributing 15 points and two steals.

The men’s team also breezed past Young Harris, ending the game with a convincing 115-87 victory. Graduate student Preston Parks lead the Pacers with a team-high of 26 points, with Horn coming up big once again right behind Parks with 25 points.

With these victories, the men bring their season to 11-5 (5-1).

Women’s: Clayton State Jan. 19, 2022 and Young Harris Jan. 22, 2022

Women’s Basketball had a successful run of games, defeating Clayton State 66-65 as well as Young Harris 53-46.

Against Clayton State, the Pacers were led by freshman Chidinma Okafor, who contributed with 17 points and seven rebounds. Redshirt freshman Jentri Worley also showed determination, adding 15 points of her own.

The match against Young Harris was much less of a nailbiter. Capitalizing on the momentum from the last win, Worley and Okafor once again enjoyed a great game, with Worley leading the team with 16 points and three steals and Okafor with 11 rebounds and six blocks. Freshman Allycia Harris also contributed to the win with 12 points.

With these two wins, the women’s team season improved to 7-8 (3-4).
