Specialty medical practice opens in Aiken

For many years now, long before we heard about COVID-19, living with HIV and opiate abuse are two health topics that are rapidly growing concerns here in Aiken.

According to the National Institute of Health, “South Carolina is one of the states in the southern region of the United States that experiences an unusually high rate of opioid-related deaths.”

Low Country Health Care System opened a specialty services site at 209 Abbeville Avenue NW, in Aiken to treat HIV and AIDS patients, provide medication therapy, primary care as well as a plethora of other services.

Currently, their hours are Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. but may expand as patient volume increases.

This federally-funded medical practice has offices in Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Blackville and now Aiken and may be of special interest to students who lack medical insurance.

They have a sliding scale for fees based on income and offer treatment without regard to patients’ ability to pay.
