A month has passed since the incident involving USC Aiken baseball coach, Kenny Thomas, in which he made a negative remark about the Black Lives Matter movement.

Thomas commented under an Instagram post which featured a picture of a Clemson football helmet with a Black Lives Matter logo on the back. Underneath the post, Thomas commented “It is 100% shameful, I promise you will never see anything like this on my field. I support the Blue and not ashamed to say it!”

This comment yielded mainly adverse responses from the students at USCA, and there was speculation over what would happen to the coach.

According to Mary Driscoll, Vice-Chancellor for Advancement and External Affairs, USCA administrators have continued talking about the incident with students to hear out their concerns.

“The University of South Carolina Aiken, like so many other universities across the country, has been engaged in difficult conversations with students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community about polarizing trends in our nation,” Driscoll said. “The university welcomes diverse opinions and values open discourse.”

Kenny Thomas remains in his position as head baseball coach at USCA.
