Aiken Composers Guild hosts burning concert
The Aiken Composers Guild kicked off the Spring semester with a fiery performance on Monday, January 14.
The free concert included several piano and guitar performances, with a light show finale.
Dr. Mark Hollingsworth took the students across the bridge- cheerfully playing the bagpipes- leading everyone through the cold air to the convocation center’s field to watch the finale.
The idea of "Burning Piano" is for a piece to be played on an old piano while it’s literally ablaze. Once the keys become too hot to play on any longer, the pianist stops playing.
In this case however, the audience were only treated to an old piano burning and providing heat during the cold evening.
"I’m not going to lie," said Darshawna Barnes, a USCA student. "I was little nervous because I didn’t know what was going on. But I enjoyed myself.”
