Campus Restriction on Tik Tok

Campus Restriction on Tik Tok

On Aug. 11, 2023, the University released a statement that TikTok will no longer be accessible from the school wifi.

The announcement stated:

“Because of ongoing security concerns on a state, federal and international level, the USC system’s networks will no longer support access to the TikTok social media platform.”

The announcement also stated:

“A limited number of exemptions will be granted for research and educational purposes, and the university system will provide subsequent updates as needed.”

The app can still be accessed on campus through the use of cellular data.

There has been no further elaboration on this matter.

Although the school has stated that this app will no longer be accessible through the University Wi-Fi, the app occasionally still works for students on the Wi-Fi.

Many students are unhappy because of this due to a lack of entertainment in their downtime.

Here are some comments from students on the matter:

“I personally think TikTok has become a way for many people my age to stay informed on recent news and politics. It shouldn’t be under fire like this,” stated Bea Waddell.

Natalie Gibson proclaimed, “I think it’s the stupidest thing ever”.
