The Negative Impact of the Willow Project

The Negative Impact of the Willow Project

On Mar. 13, the Willow Project was passed. The Biden Administration passing this project allows for multiple oil rigs to be placed in Alaska.

The Arctic is one of the most pristine places left on planet Earth. This is due to the protective measures that have been placed upon the Arctic.

The passing of the Willow Project is going to have detrimental effects on the environment. Over the course of 30 years 263 million tons of greenhouse gasses are projected to be released. This will have irreversible effects on the atmosphere.

Along with the increase of Global Warming, there will be detrimental effects on the wildlife that lives in Alaska. Polar bears, penguins and seals are already facing the effects of climate change. With ice melting, many of these animals will not be able to survive. There will also be a decrease in available food for them as well.

Any form of oil spill can be extremely detrimental to any animals that come into contact with it.

There have been multiple petitions to stop this project from passing, but they have unfortunately been ineffective.

Passing the Willow Project directly violates what Biden stated during his 2020 campaign. He promised to end new oil drilling on federal land.

Overall, this project will have irreversible damage to the Earth unless something is done to stop it.
