How is "Baddies" a Bad Rendition of Bad Girls Club

If you grew up in the late 2000s and 2010s, you have either heard of or watched Bad Girls Club. The show had a long run of 17 seasons and its last episode aired on May 2017.

Bad Girls Club was a reality TV show focusing on a group of seven women that are selected from different cities in the country. They are supposed to coexist in a mansion for three months and follow a set of rules, the most important one is to not physically harm your housemates and production team. They are supplied with food, and alcohol, and near nightclubs and bars. If a member breaks the rules or simply quits, there is a “replacement” and the show continues. The women endure verbal altercations, destruction of personal belongings and fights. While filming they are allowed to have visitors, contact their loved ones, shop, and have club hookups. The goal is to tolerate your housemates to the end.

Fifteen years later a sequel aired on Zeus network called “Baddies” which is currently on its second season. The show is produced by former Bad Girls Club star Natalie Nunn. The web series has gained a lot of popularity and clips from the show have gone viral on social media.

The purpose of the rendition is to bring back members of the original Bad Girls Club Cast as well as some new faces and give them an opportunity to hash out old problems. The first season, Baddies: ATL, received negative reviews from viewers because of poor editing and confusing storylines. The second season, Baddies: South, starred a whole new cast with Natalie Nunn being the only recurring cast member. The season improved considerably with a higher budget, touring to different seasons, and a better storyline.

The similarities between the shows is that it promotes belligerent behavior. Both shows gave certain cast members popularity such as Chrisean Rock, The Clermont Twins and Natalie Nunn. Bad Girls Club and Baddies’ plots are somewhat similar with a group being divided into two cliques. The respective cliques are against each other and frequently clash throughout the series.

A significant difference between the shows is that Baddies lack authenticity. Baddie’s cast members are full of women who already had a platform while the Bad Girls Club cast included random women from different cities. Bad Girls Club was a social experiment to see how one would react when placed in a house with seven girls with bold personalities and to see if they would prevail in the end. Baddies is a typical reality show of women putting up an act for the cameras and to gain popularity.

The Baddies series is a bad rendition of the Bad Girls Club because of not only the lack of authenticity, but there isn’t a real depth in the storyline. There isn’t any real comradery , one day they are friends and then the next day they have problems. It is repetitive and after a while, it becomes boring to watch. In Bad Girls Club you watch friendships form and people’s development throughout the season. It is safe to say that both shows left an impression on urban and popular culture.
