LGBTQ+ History Month Flag/Button Making Event

LGBTQ+ History Month Flag/Button Making Event

On Oct. 31, 2023, the Office of Institutional Culture and Belonging hosted their “LGBTQ+ History Month Flag/Button Making Event.” Attendees of this event were able to make pride flags and buttons while learning about LGBTQ History Month.

The crafting portion of this event utilized a button maker and pre-printed button designs to make pins and fabric markers to make pride flags. There was a variety of designs for the buttons, allowing attendees to create buttons beyond the standard pride flag or pronoun pins. The fabric markers gave attendees the freedom to create unique and customized pride flags.

While attendees created buttons and flags, an educational PowerPoint was played in the background. The PowerPoint contained information about the history of LGBTQ History Month and LGBTQ rights, such as the Stonewall protests and how Pride Month was extended from a single day to June. Alongside the PowerPoint, a playlist of Halloween music was played since the event was hosted on Halloween.
