Sexual Health Awareness Month: Steps Taken On Campus

Sexual Health Awareness Month: Steps Taken On Campus

With it being Sexual Health Awareness Month it’s important to discuss and educate all aspects of sexual health, even the ones that aren’t interesting. While South Carolina has some of the lowest rates of STIs in the country, we are in the leading numbers for Chlamydia which continues to increase yearly.

On Sept. 28 from 10 am to 3:30 pm the Health Center will be free HIV testing and will not be requiring appointments. This service is available year-round on some campuses, if not for free then still offered, along with testing for other common STIs.

Our Student Health center is known to offer plenty of other useful services in order to provide for students in need. As of today, the Health Center offers:

  •  Treatment for common conditions

  • Nursing physicals

  • Screening for strep throat, mono, and flu

  • PPDs

  • Vaccination

  • Free condoms

Until this is offered on campus, there are free condoms available and places nearby that offer testing. One of these is the Aiken County Health Department where the cost would be depending on your insurance. Here, there are also birth control consultations and other forms of treatment to help with sexual health.
