Introducing USCA Polo

Introducing USCA Polo

Before beginning, it’s important to know the difference between Equestrian and Polo. An Equestrian is anyone that rides horses while Polo is the physical sport that Equestrians play.

The game of Polo involves two teams battling with their mallets to shoot into the opposite team's goal, all while riding horses. In professional games, there’s a large green field with four people on a team. College Polo is played in an arena with 3 people on each team.

Unlike other sports, Polo isn’t during a certain season. USCA's team plays in the fall, through the winter and at the beginning of spring.

Currently, there’s no facility on campus for their team so a nearby Polo community is used.

Intro to some of the team!

“I am not sure what my career path will be. I just know I will always want to have horses as a part of my life in some way. Whether it be a hobby I do on the side of my job or my actual job. I got into horses when I was 6 years old since my mom kept getting annoyed when we would go to the riverbanks zoo and I would continuously ask to ride the little ponies. So, my mom took me to a trainer that a family friend was riding with and I haven't stopped riding since.”  -Shona Adams, Sophomore Business Administration major

Clay Beam is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering. He plans to work at SNS and eventually get a masters in Nuclear Engineering and/or an MBA.

“ I rode horses when I was younger then stopped riding while I was in the military and before I moved to Aiken. Then I started riding again when I moved here and joined the Polo team.” -Clay Beam’s background in Equestrian

He also notes that he made a friend upon joining the team, Andrew Scott.
