Album Review: Midnights (3am Edition)

Taylor Swift’s long-awaited album is finally out! Midnights is the album being reviewed this week because so many people wanted to listen to the album. A few hours after releasing the album, Swift released a second edition of the album that features seven extra songs! In less than twenty-four hours after the album was released, it shot up the charts and made it to the most plays in a day on Spotify. This insane accomplishment has the skill to back it up too!

The album starts off with “Lavender Haze” which feels like such a great start to the album. This song breaks from the country music standard Swift used to be known for. She brings out her inner pop girl for this song (and the rest of the album) and it is such a refreshing sound from her. This song has this upbeat feel to it that makes you just want to get up and dance the night away. The song shares some struggles she has experienced when finding love. This song is one to add to any upbeat pop playlist or love playlist.

Another notable song is “Song On The Beach” which features Lana Del Ray. The pair’s harmony works together so well in this song and fits perfectly in the album. This song has a darker tone to it and showcases the time the album was released. This song has this meaning of falling in love with someone after a heartbreak and them falling in love with you too. The name is because of how unreal it can feel when falling in love just like seeing snow on the beach would feel if you saw it. This song is perfect to add to any playlist for when you need a good cry but is also perfect for a love playlist.

“Vigilante Shit” is another song in the album that pictures Swift in this darker tone. This song shares her feeling of being wronged in relationships and wanting payback against them. If you have paid attention to Swift over the years you may know of many of her older albums being bought by someone. This song talks a bit about revenge on the person that did it because of her struggles with him. This song is all about karmic justice and Swift shares this feeling throughout the song.

This album is worthy of praise because Swift managed to combine so many different styles in this album. No song feels like it is the same, but all keep that understanding of her struggles in life where she went through those 12 a.m. thoughts. The album is one to give listen to if you are up late at night and just need a good break from life.
