Masters' icon Tiger Woods career in jeopardy following major wreck

Masters’ icon Tiger Woods suffered major injuries following a wreck that caused multiple open and closed fractures in both legs.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced the results of his department investigation into the car crash that Woods incapacitated briefly.

On Tuesday Feb. 23, Woods was rushed to the hospital shortly after a 911 call regarding a wreck that occurred around 7 a.m. near Rancho Palos Verdes.

Officers arrived at the scene six minutes later and found Woods trapped in an S.U.V that had rolled over. On that same Tuesday at Harbor-U.C.L.A. Medical Center, doctors performed surgery to treat his injuries.

According to Dr. Anish Mahajan, the acting chief executive of the Harbor, “both bones in Woods’s lower right leg, the tibia and fibula, had been broken in multiple places and were ‘open fractures,’ meaning they pierced his skin.”

Because of Woods’ relevance in the golfing world, rumors of preferential treatment from the hospital rose to the surface. These rumors have been investigated, though there is no conclusive evidence of preferential treatment by investigation department.

The sheriff has maintained that the crash was an accident, saying that he and his deputies did not detect signs of impairment at the scene.

“An accident is not a crime,” Villanueva stated.

While Woods’ was unable to participate in the 2021 Masters’ in Augusta, he released a statement to the public regarding his health and mental well-being.

“Happy to report that I am back home and continuing my recovery,” wrote Woods. He expressed gratitude toward the “outpouring of support and encouragement” that has occurred over the weeks following his accident, as well as the “incredible surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.”

Woods' closed with a comment on his recovery, stating his recovery will take place at home and that he is “working on getting stronger every day.”
