Brotherhood and memories, the answer behind frat rushing

University of South Carolina Aiken inducted new members into fraternities Friday evening.

The inductions come at the end of “rush” week, which is the practice of recruiting new individuals for Greek life organizations. USC Aiken currently has Delta Sigma Phi, Kappa Sigma, Lambda Chi Alpha and Tau Kappa Epsilon in terms of their inter-fraternity council, according to the Greek Chapters page of the USCA website.

Gabriel Smith, a sophomore chemistry major, joined Tau Kappa Epsilon.

“I knew some people inside and they convinced me to join,” Smith said. “I didn’t initially plan on joining, sophomore year, but after meeting them and getting to know them.”

Smith went on to say “I’m hoping to get connections, a sense of brotherhood, and just some good memories.”

Delta Sigma Phi welcomed Stanislas, a junior exchange student majoring in business.

“I’m an exchange student so I didn’t know about it, the Greek life thing, but I managed to learn a little bit about it and now that I’m a member of the fraternity, I hope to learn more,” Stanislas said.

The four fraternities welcomed a variant of new members.
