V-Day Special: Red Dead Redemption 2 and MarioKart

V-Day Special: Red Dead Redemption 2 and MarioKart

Red Dead Redemption 2 by Jillian Paige Hicks:

Rockstar is known for making games that never get old, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is no exception. After completing the 55- to 80-hour story, one has the option to build a character and play online. Although it is tempting to prolong the patriarchy in video games and choose a male character, consider that choosing a female character is just better.

Not only do female characters have makeup and more clothing options, but both non-playable characters (NPCs) and players are generally nicer to female characters. Similar to Grand Theft Auto V, interactions are also slightly different for female characters. For example, at the beginning of the online campaign, as a male character, Jessica LeClerk, a widow, demands Horely, your rescuer, to bring drinks for the two of you to share. However, as a female character, she is slightly dismissive of the player and does not offer drinks.

Not to mention the fact that it’s refreshing to play as a female character when the majority of single protagonists in video games are male. There are only a handful of women in the Wild West who weren’t sewing, cooking, or raising children, so it is empowering to be able to do that as a character who looks like you for once.

Overall, Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of those games that pass the time without notice, which is why I highly suggest it for any singles on Valentine’s Day.

MarioKart by Erica Bennett:

With Valentine’s Day only a few days away, some couples may still be trying to figure out what to do to celebrate. While going out to a nice dinner or staying in for a movie are great ideas, why not try playing MarioKart together?

MarioKart is a fun game where two or more people can race against each other to win first place or join together to beat another team. This game is for all ages and is just a great way to spend time together.

It is available on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, iQue Player, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Nintendo DS, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch!
