According to the Johns Hopkins Hospital tracker, as of Sunday, April 5, there have been 1,272,155 cases of coronavirus confirmed worldwide, with 337,072 in the U.S.

Johns Hopkins also reported 9,619 deaths and 17,448 recovered patients within the country.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) reported 2,049 in South Carolina, while the Georgia Department of Public Health reported 6,647.

While Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed a shelter-in-place order for the state on Thursday, which will last until April 13, the South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster ordered the closure of non-essential businesses and all short-term rentals.

Despite the projection that cases will continue to rise until at least May in South Carolina, McMaster has resisted signing a stay-at-home order for South Carolina. This remains the only southeastern state without one in place.
