New USC Aiken music department Instagram run by students

Junior Alexis Molina has created an Instagram account (@uscamusic) to highlight students in the music department as a way to reach prospective students.

Molina is a music education major with dual accreditation in instrumental and choir studies. His primary instrument is percussion, and he also sings in the USC Aiken Concert Choir as a bass voice.

“The Instagram page showcases the musical talents that our department has as well as USC Aiken,” Molina stated during an interview.

He plans on using the Instagram page to bring awareness to the music department to potential students.

“Me personally, I didn’t know USC Aiken had a music program until it was too late to register for scholarships.”

He wants to be able to reach older high school students that could possibly be interested in the music program here at USCA. He chose Instagram as the platform for the page because “it is such a user friendly app, and millions and millions of people our age have it. It seems like the easiest way to communicate that not only do we have a program, but that we have a program that's filled with talented people that are serious musicians.”

Molina came up with the idea of “Music Mondays” that showcases individuals in the music program as well as other musicians on campus.

“It’s not only a good way to show the music department but that we have art on campus.”

Molina plans on expanding the pages following and hopes that it will help grow both the music and arts programs as a whole.
