COVID-19 Update: South Carolina and Aiken County continue to see cases

Nearly 90,000 new coronavirus cases were reported in the United States last Thursday.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) announced 918 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in South Carolina.

There are a total of more than 3,000 confirmed deaths in South Carolina; the majority were elderly aged 65 and older. 1,959,926 tests were conducted on Wednesday in the state, and more than 100,000 people tested positive.

DHEC also announced an additional 13 confirmed deaths and 2 new probable deaths.

On Oct. 28, Aiken County confirmed more than 4,000 positive COVID-19 cases and 77 deaths.

The Aiken County Public School District also reported 15 new COVID-19 cases in its weekly report, bringing the cumulative school year total to 124 cases.

The district also reported that more than 100 students and 19 employees were quarantined due to possible exposure to the virus during this reporting period.

No students or employees were reported hospitalized because of coronavirus, according to the district.
