WSOC: Pacers fight for a cause

The USC Aiken women’s soccer team took to the field Wednesday evening against Francis Marion.

The Pacer’s sported pink jersey’s for breast cancer awareness month to show their support for people who have had breast cancer or are currently fighting against the disease.

Already trailing 1-0 by the 14th minute of gameplay, Erika Bateman took an attempt at the goal but was blocked by a defender.

USCA earned a corner kick in the 25th minute, which player Marianne Ross kicked towards the goal with Amanda Raleigh further assisting, but the opposing keeper made the save.

Down 2-0 by the second half, USCA controlled possession of the ball with player Gressa Olson taking a shot at the 51:53 mark. Her sister, Willa Olson attempted a shot at the 61st minute but was yet again blocked by the goalie of FMU.

For the first half of the match, keeper Madi Banks stopped two shots heading toward the goal while Makenzie Maxwell registered one save.

 The Pacers will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26, when they play Young Harris at 7 p.m.
