Former tennis team member experiences theft on campus

The tennis team experienced another loss on Oct. 3, this time due to the theft of donated tennis balls.

On the USC Aiken Student Life Facebook page, former tennis team player Alex Sklizović posted a statement regarding the news of the theft and urged students to reach out to him if they had any information on the whereabouts of the tennis balls.

In correspondence with Sklizović, he wrote that the tennis balls had originally been donated by “somebody close” to the team because they did not have any balls to continue to pursue tennis with.

He also wrote that though the balls were just for practice, they held personal value because it was an act of charity as well as it being the “first and only thing donated to us.”

In regards to the theft, Sklizović wrote that there are no motivations that he is aware of.

The tennis office is not secured and has had a history of theft. The team has experienced losses of racquets, shoes, and once a $400 speaker.

“Personally, I think the campus police has done nothing in the past to help us get back our other stolen or broken goods. When we tried to get our speaker back, they told us there are no cameras there,” wrote Skilozović. “They didn’t really seem interested in helping at that time, so I just don’t see a reason why they would be interested in helping more than what they did in the past.”

He also thanked the campus community for the attempts to try and find the tennis balls and the influx of donations: “The donations and search mean a ton to me and the rest of the team remaining on campus.”
